Luxury Loft - Project Reveal

 L U X U R Y L O F T - P R O J E C T R E V E A L

I am SO excited to finally reveal the Luxury Loft Project because this install was a LONG time coming due to the Covid Pandemic. Despite being right in the middle of California’s stay-at-home order, my clients were so patient while we navigated through a new installation process. Our priority was to make sure everyone was practicing safe social distancing. After a couple of months, we were finally able to get paint and carpentry work done, but didn’t fully install furniture and accessories until the end of summer.

To start off, let’s walk through some background information. The clients purchased this brand new home a couple of years ago and like most second story lofts, it’s the first thing you see as you come up the stairs. Since they were about to start designing the space themselves before hiring me, they had already chosen (but not yet purchased) the leather sectional and rug. Lucky for me, they have impeccable taste and I’ve never had so much fun creatively collaborating with clients before! In terms of functionality, they wanted to create the ultimate lounging retreat with a TV/movie watching experience like none other. I jumped right in and decided on a dark, moody palette to give a high contrast look against the neutral couch and rug.

The rug has subtle hints of a washed blue/green so I played off of that and chose the wall and cabinetry paint colors (both from Portola Paints). We created texture on the walls with a Roman Clay finish in the color Lone Park. I fell in LOVE when I saw a sample of it - the perfect blend of gray and green. It paired beautifully with the cabinetry color in Half Moon Bay.

Per the client’s request, they wanted this space to pay homage to the city of Paris. The candelabra-stye chandelier, custom velvet-tufted coffee table and detailing on the end tables intentionally mimic French provenance. We purposefully added three beveled mirrors above the couch to reflect the beautiful custom cabinetry. To contrast, the round boucle upholstered ottomans break up all the straight lines in the room. Ultimately, the subtle mix of all these fabrics and textures is what gives the space an elevated and high end look.

I didn’t want to have anything that would distract from the dark atmosphere we worked so hard to create, so we painted the ceiling to match the dark walls to keep it all consistent. On that same note, I opted for tone-on-tone roman shades that were blackout lined so there’s no TV glare and makes movie nights much more enjoyable. In my opinion, these were the two elements that really took the design to the next level!

Even though there is no window on the adjacent wall, I incorporated a non-functioning drapery panel to add movement to the empty wall behind the couch. It was a last minute creative decision, but it really pulled that corner together. I sourced the most beautiful prima-alpaca fabric and knew it had to be showcased just right. This particular style of ripple-folded drapery does just that. It really allows the fabric to shine and the tonal quality helps achieve the monochromatic look I was after.
